Hydration Station - Prepping for Winter

Summer is fading (later than usual!) and fall/winter is right around the corner. With cooling temps comes drier skin and a little more maintenance to keep skin happy and healthy. Small steps can help you get ahead of the game and make the transition to winter so much easier on your skin!

  1. Drink more water! Yes, yes, I am a broken record along with anyone else in the health/wellness community. It truly makes such a big difference to hydrate your body and sip on water throughout the day. I got back into carrying my “big, dumb cup” (my fiancé’s nickname for it) around more often and believe me, it makes a difference! I feel less bloated, have more energy, and my skin isn’t drying out! I try to fill mine up at least three times a day, but start small with once and work your way up!

  2. Sleep with a humidifier in your room. This is one I didn’t think about until I went to esthetics school! I have one in my room that I turn on at night and my skin loves it. If you struggle with dry skin, this can be such an easy way to help out your skin while you sleep!

  3. Apply a hydrating mask 1-3 times a week. This will give your skin the extra boost it can need in the colder months! My absolute favorite one is the Hydrating Mask with Enzymes from GlyMed. It is like green juice for your face!

  4. Switching up a few of your products to more “heavy hitters” to combat dryness. For example, adding in a hydrating serum, a creamy cleanser, or a heavier moisturizer. If you struggle with dry skin, I usually recommend the Mega Cream Cleanser, Ultra Hydro Gel, and Barrier Repair Cream from GlyMed. A hydrating toner/spray can also help with hydration throughout the day! Skin Recovery Mist or CBD Skin Mist are great options.

  5. Making sure your skin is protected while you’re outside and in the elements! Yes, you still need to wear SPF. The cool temps don’t protect us from the UVB rays! If you like to ski, snowboard, hike, skate, fish, or really any other winter sport, make sure to cover your face as much as possible. Cell Protection Balm can be an extra layer to help prevent windburn and acts as a shield between you and the wind.

  6. Fall is also the season to season to start prepping for more intense winter treatments with your esthetician. Winter is when the chemical peels, exfoliating masks, and enzymes come out to play. With less sun, it is better and safer for you skin to have these treatments. Start talking with your esthetician now to see what fall treatments will help you the most to prepare for winter.

Even adding in one or two of these tips into your routine can make a big impact on your winter skin! Now is the time to get into these hydrating habits before the snow flies and we have bigger things to worry about. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions!
